The roller coaster we call the coronavirus pandemic has us canceling, scheduling and, once again, rescheduling events. Several fall design events will move forward, including Fall Design Week, Access Design and the AIA Houston Home Tour, along with a new, modern design event, Ornare Design Conversation.

Access Design

This quarterly event, co-hosted by the Houston Design District and Houston Chronicle, will be 4-6 p.m. Oct. 7 and 10 a.m.-noon Oct. 8. This fall installment will be part of the broader Fall Design Week in the design district on Old Katy Road.

Speaking on Oct. 7 are interior designers Talbot Cooley of Talbot Cooley Interiors on “Form and Function for Everyday Living” and Janus Lazaris of the Janus Design Group on “From Traditional to Transitional: Mixing Styles to Create a Unique Home.” On Oct. 8, speakers are Laura Manchee of Laura Manchee Designs on “Staying Power: A Thoughtful Approach to Personalized Design” and Kelly Gale Amen of Kelly Gale Amen Design on “The Art of Living/Living With Art.”

Ornare Design Conversation

A new event focusing on modern interior design will be hosted by myself and Rasha Nasreddin Domloj at her Ornare Houston cabinet showroom at the Decorative Center of Houston. Business partners and interior designers LeTricia Wilbanks and Selena Mackay of Wilbanks Mackay will talk about the “Hottest Trends in European Modern Design,” having just returned from fall European furniture markets.

Texas Antiques Week

Fall antiques shows in Round Top should benefit from cooler temperatures that go with the later dates. The Original Round Top Antiques Fair will run Oct. 25-30 and the Marburger Farm Antique Show starts a day later, running Oct. 26-30. There are plenty of smaller venues in the Round Top area, including The Compound, Henckel Square and The Arbors.

Good Brick Tour

Preservation Houston officials are still in the planning stages but have opted to again host its annual tour of historic homes and buildings virtually this fall. They’ll have extensive narrated video of four properties that will launch online in early November.

Norhill Bungalow Tour

Charming Norhill, an L-shaped neighborhood near the Houston Heights and Woodland Heights that hosts a bungalow tour every other year, will host its next event in April 2022 as a centennial celebration.
